Early in her artistic career, Julie worked as an intern at the San Antonio Zoo where she developed a passion for conservation and raising awareness about the imbalance between the natural world and modern cultural advances.
While one may see zoos or wildlife parks as a source for spectacle, others see them as a means to protect and conserve wildlife. Her photographic works have become a menagerie of animal portraits that she has captured while visiting zoos across the nation. Works from her “Shadows of the Zoo” series have been featured in Texas art galleries including the Milan Gallery of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, and the Fort Works Art Gallery.
